A Creative Professional with More than Half a Brain
It’s true that creative folks are typically a right-brained lot. After all, graphic designers and artists need to be able to capture attention with unexpected and clever visual solutions. But wouldn’t it be nice to know that the driver behind the wheel of your creative project has something a little extra – some left-brained ability that keeps your project well-managed and on-budget; the technical expertise to ensure your promotions print as well as they look; and the marketing savvy to understand and connect with your market through eye-catching artwork.
That’s where I can help. I’m Cheryl Peddie, and Emerge Creative is my company.
Way-back-when, (still in the days of paste-up and PMTs) I chose to first get a marketing degree from the good-old U of S before I began training in art and design. Those profs made me sweat, believe me. A ‘right-brainer’ like me had to work hard, but I learned a lot. Then in 1992, right after my cap and gown hit the floor, I traded in my old textbooks for a delightfully messy art studio, a PowerMac, and a pocket full of paintbrushes.
It was a great plan of attack. My business degree gave me the edge to properly assess a target market; to understand how design and art can either be the ‘dazzle’ on top of a great marketing strategy, or the reason for it falling on it’s face. My artistic training has enabled me to see the world in the upside-down ways that keep my visual ideas fresh and fun; plus, the light-heartedness to know that the reason behind all my creative work is ‘fun’. The ‘splash in the rain puddles’, ‘play tug with your dog’, ‘chase down the ice cream truck to buy all the kids in the neighborhood a cone’ kind of fun. It’s simple; it (usually) doesn’t cost much; and it’s what my life and my art is all about. I think it’s made me a better designer and artist.
Have a look my portfolio – I hope you’ll agree. If you have a question, or if you need a hand with your next creative project, give me a call. I’d love to hear from you.

About Cheryl Peddie
"Life is best when it is light-hearted and simple; complete with ice cream trucks in the summer, fuzzy pets, and afternoon naps. That’s what my art is about."
